Well Nick, I know you grew up on the west coast, but let me tell you about the "rust belt" when there was no rust on it! Imagine a time when in the adjoining rural hinterlands, most folks could travel to Rochester or Syracuse (UpYork State) from our midway rural haunts: Back then, in the 60's and 70's there was a vast industrial machine that was America... Of course, most lads like me grew up on farms, but many having served in WW2, Korea, or Vietnam, it was a slice of capitalist heaven. Folks wore farm clothes or suits, and women wore dresses. Church was always packed on Sundays, and everyone knew everyone. There was a "telephone" on a table or the wall, and you had to ask your folks permission to make a call. All . the same, there were jobs aplenty, and a nice clean Texaco station on the corner You could put coins in the soda or candy machine, and it was a good day. As a kid, I could roam the countryside on foot or with my bike. I could wait for the schoolbus with my rifle or shotgun, hand it off to the driver, or take into the main office. At the end of the day, the schoolbus driver would drop me off wherever I wanted to hunt, or to the end of my trapline. It wasn't always blue skies! Sometimes you had to stand up for yourself and punch someone in the face. It's too bad we can't have an America like that again. But I do my part in my own small town. If you come this way, I might even be giving a sermon!

Another great video Nick. A lot of those neighborhood's reminded me of a few places I lived in Detroit. You can tell at one time they were beautiful homes. Not anymore, unfortunately. Now, not many people own nice cars, but everyone owns a nice firearm. Mappy knows what I'm talking about. 😉 They don't call 9 1 1 anymore, they call 357. It's an interesting story. Gary, Indiana used to be big when steel and all were big, plus before the free ways. Once steel fell and the free ways were built, Gary, Indiana fell. Apparently, it only existed cause at the time driving to Chicago from Indianapolis was dangerous and took forever. Once the free ways were built, it took a lot less time and was safer.

It all starts at the top, with their ignorance of how people behave. They give money to cities, who then allocate their own personal priorities of importances... yada yada yada.. there's no money left for the poor neighborhoods! What they need is more local industries, rather than reliance on other places.

I used to hit up this place called the divine cup downtown. Good coffee and Friday nights had bands playing. It was a great place to meet people. Im dating myself, but that was over 20 years ago. Nick, you forgot to honorably mention the band Cheap trick. They want you to want them…. 😂

Wow Rockford has taken a nose dive. I grew up in Chicago and Naperville. We used to go to Rockford to visit cousins 30+ years ago. Their house and neighborhood were really nice. There was a clock tower there with some good restaurants. I think they're gone. I miss all the good food and stuff to do in Illinois, but taxes are running people out. Winter is horrible or was. I'm in NC now, and friends in Illinois love telling me when their weather is warmer in winter than where I am. It seems the winters haven't been as cold.

There are some very nice neighborhoods in Rockford. I know people only want to see the trash, but there is nice stuff there. Yes, Rockford for the most part sucks. Yes, the streets absolutely suck. I live in Evanston. I wouldn't live in Rockford if it was free. My sister lives in Rockford in a nice place. The west side is garbage.
